Tight monetary policies and credit control, a must
The Central Bank of Sri Lanka revised economic
growth forecast for 2012 to 7.2 percent from the eight percent
anticipated at the beginning of the year. Governor Ajith Nivard
Cabraal said that the growth forecast for the year is strong after
two consecutive years with over eight percent growth.

AmCham welcomes import tax on vehicles
The American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham )
welcomed the move by the Governmnet to raise import tax on vehicles.
AmCham President Vijaya Ratnayake said that vehicle import duties
had to be increased to curtail the growing trade deficit and the
rising of the import bill. He said that present infrastructure which
cannot cope with the increase number of vehicles and the staggering
fuel import bill have been some concerns of the Government which we
appreciate.

Emirates invests in premium lounge at BIA
Emirates opened its passenger lounge at the
Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayaka (BIA), becoming the
first international airline to invest in such a facility at the BIA.
Completed at a cost of Rs 200 m, the Emirates lounge on the second
floor of the Arrivals Terminal is exclusively for the use of the
airline’s First and Business Class passengers and Gold members of
Skywards, its frequent flyer program.
