Ganna Smirnova presents Bharata Natyam program
The Indian Culture Centre, Colombo is organising a Bharata Natyam
Dance program by Ganna Smirnova and her disciple Oxana, well known
Bharata Natyam exponents from Ukraine at 6.00 pm tomorrow at ICC
auditorium.

Ganna Smirnova did her Post-Graduate Diploma in Indian Classical
Dance (Bharata Natyam) with the ICCR Scholarship from Triveni Kala
Sangam under the legendary Guru Jayalakshmi Eswar 1998-2003 and
empanelled as an artiste by ICCR since 2004. She is a teacher of Indian
classical Dance and Yoga in the Department of Arts and Aesthetic
Education in the T.G.Shevchenko National University since 2004 onwards.
She has been training and teaching the students of the university as
well as the enrolled students from outside. Since 2009 She is doing
research work on the subject of Aesthetics of Indian Temple Dances
Tradition and Contemporary World at the Department of Arts and
Aesthetics of the T.G. Shevchenko National University Kiev, Ukraine.She
has done her Post Graduate Diploma with the specialisation in
choreography from the Kyiv National university of culture and art
(1993-1997). She was conferred with the Ensemble Award by the Kyiv
cultural city administration 2009, Natya Shiromani Award by the Cuttack
Mahotsava and Natyaa Saaradhi Award by the Bharath Mahotsav 20012. She
has published Indian temple dances named as “Indian temple Dances
Tradition, Philosophy and Legends” and published seven scientific
research articles in various scientific Journals under the Academy of
Sciences of Ukraine on Indian aesthetics and philosophy. The admission
is free on first come first served basis.
World Hindi Day celebrations
Indian Cultural Centre, Colombo is organising the “World Hindi Day”
on January 10 from 3.30 pm to 7 pm in its auditorium in Colombo 7.
As part of the celebrations certificates will be distributed to the
students who passed the Hindi examinations and prizes will be given to
the winners of the competitions held in Hindi Diwas. It will be followed
by a conference on “Influence of Hindi in Sri Lanka”.
Ashok K. Kantha, High Commissioner of India will be inaugurating the
conference as the chief guest.The participants in the conference will be
Saranaguptha Weerasinghe, Founder and Director of Hindi Niketan, Prof.
Lakshman Senevirathna, University of Kelaniya, Prof. Indralatha
Dissanayake, (retired) University of Kelaniya and Mrs. Nilanthi
Rajapakse, University of Jayewardenepura.
The conference will be followed by a variety program by ICC students.
