He said that Mini Basketball Coaching Program was launched with the
support of the Committee of Management of the Otter Aquatic Club in 1999
and the program has produced nearly 1,800 players who are now
representing leading schools/mercantile establishments and the Sri Lanka
National Teams.
The boys and girls are taught by leading coaches who have produced
results at the inter-school tournaments.
The last mini basketball carnival was conducted last month with
nearly 50 children from various age groups at the Royal Indoor Court and
this was a tremendous success.
For the keenness shown by the children, each child was given a
basketball bag to keep the playing kit and there will be more surprises
to encourage the youngsters to continue playing the game. The carnival
is held once in six months to enable the players to join the school
teams, said Malsiri.According to coach Malsiri, the practices will be
held on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 10.00 a.m., Sundays from 4 p.m. to 6
p.m. All practices will be conducted at the Otter Aquatic Club
Basketball Court. Registration will be on Saturday, 12th January at 8
a.m. and on Sunday, 13th January at 4 p.m.
