Sri Lanka lose to Pakistan in Asia Cup (Deaf) final

Sri Lanka emerged runners-up in the Second Asia Cup (Deaf) Cricket Tournament held in Lahore, Pakistan. There were five countries in the tournament – reigning champions Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Afghanistan.


Sri Lanka Deaf Cricket Team: T.S. Jayasinghe (Captain), R. Ashantha (Vice Captain), Hemajith Kumara, T. Sanjeewa, Lakshan Fernando, Nalin Sameera, Chandima Peiris, G.S. Walegama, T. Wimalaweera, Asanka Manjula, Udaya Lakmal, P. Madushanka, S. Honkata, Prageeth Kumara. Shivantha Vivekanandan (President SLDCA and Senior Vice Chairman (ADCF), Jayalath Aponso (Head Coach), Bobby Fernando (Coach), Zaharine Hameen (Team Manager), M.K. Ajith (Scorer), Dinusha Fernando (Interpreter), Asela Jayatilleke (Secretary, SLDCA), Kishin Hameen (Physiotherapist), M.C.R. Salgado (Umpire).

Sri Lanka qualified to play Pakistan in the final. Sri Lanka beat Nepal while two of their matches – against Afghanistan and India were abandoned owing to rain and lost to Pakistan.

In the vital game against Pakistan, the Pakistanis made 234 for 8 wickets in their allotted 40 overs, while Sri Lanka were all out for 142 runs in 37 overs.

Sri Lanka’s assignments in Second Deaf Asia Cup 2012 Cricket Tournament:

Sri Lanka beat Nepal by 272 runs

Sri Lanka: 310 for 3 wkts in 40 overs (Udaya Lakmal 35, Hemajith Kumara 32, R. Asantha 110 not out, L. Fernando 80 not out).

Nepal: 38 in 17.5 overs (Sampath Jayasinghe 6 for 7).

Sri Lanka vs Pakistan – match abandoned owing rain.

Sri Lanka: 70 for 4 wkts in 22 overs (Hemajith Kumara 20) – match stopped owing to rain.

Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan – No play owing to rain.
Sri Lanka vs India – No play owing to rain.

The final – Sri Lanka vs Pakistan

Pakistan: 234 for 8 wkts in 40 overs (Naeem Arshad 93, G. Usman 53, R. Asantha 4 for 52).
Sri Lanka: 142 in 37 overs (R. Ashantha 69, Shakil 3 for 18).
