Scholarships for top A/L achievers
The top achievers at the 2012 GCE Advanced Level examination were
recently awarded scholarships by the Institute of Chartered Accountants
of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka).
At a ceremony under the patronage of Minister of Higher Education, S.
B. Dissanayake, students who scored the highest marks at the GCE
Advanced Level examination in the commerce stream were awarded full
scholarships under the 'top 10' scholarship category by the institute,
to embark on a career in accounting.
Students who were adjudged district-first in the commerce stream from
Anuradhapura, Hambantota, Kegalle, Kurunegala, Polonnaruwa, Puttalam,
Ratnapura and Vavuniya districts were also awarded CA Sri Lanka
scholarships.
A scholarship was also granted under the special category to a
student from the Colombo district.
The award of scholarships for top AL students was initiated in 2002
under the its corporate social responsibility initiative. CA Sri Lanka,
President Sujeewa Rajapakse said that the Institute as the national body
of accountants and as one of the leading tertiary education providers
strives to ensure that students from whatever financial background, are
given an equal opportunity to embark on a fulfilling professional
career.
"Our institute attracts the best and brightest of students from
commerce and non-commerce fields, and the scholarship aims at fortifying
the student potential we attract on an annual basis to our institute."
The institute has a student base of over 41,000 who are currently
following its globally recognised chartered accountancy course.
Chief Executive Officer, CA Sri Lanka, Aruna Alwis said that the CA
Sri Lanka qualification which is among the recognised accountancy
qualifications in Sri Lanka has produced over 4,300 Chartered
Accountants.
"The scholarship program is an excellent opportunity to help groom
the minds of the brightest of students to be successful accounting
professionals in the years to come," he said. |
