by Uditha Kumarasinghe
Vietnam’s Communist Party’s deputy head of the Commission for
External Relations, Nguyen Huy Tang said that Vietnam wound stand by Sri
Lanka in the event of any challenge thrown at her internationally by
Western countries.
He was speaking at a discussion with Construction, Engineering
Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa at his
Ministry recently.
Tang had told the Minister that in the efforts to further strengthen
the historical ties between the two countries, Vietnam Government would
defend Sri Lanka’s cause in the event of any future challenges.
The CPV Deputy Head had also told Minister Weerawansa that Vietnam
hopes to strengthen the cooperation between the two countries in the
field of construction and stressed the need to study construction
technology and exchange expertise. He also extended an invitation to the
minister to visit Vietnam.
Minister Weerawansa expressed his gratitude on behalf of President
Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Government and Sri Lankans to Vietnam for its
stance on Sri Lanka in the wake of various baseless allegations levelled
against Sri Lanka by certain Western countries.
The Minister said he was interested in studying the Vietnamese
construction technology and use its expertise to develop the local
construction industry.
