Pedro summit open to public

The Summit of Pedro (Piduruthalagala) which was declared a Security Zone since 1983 was open to the public during the April festivities.

There was a shooting incident at the Pedro Summit in 1983 which led to the prohibition coming into force in the area. Earlier, people had to obtain permission from the Defence Ministry to go up the Summit during April festivities.

A large number of vehicles carrying holiday crowds to the base of the Summit including foreigners is a common sight today.
