Today’s children, tomorrow’s leaders – Minister Kumaratunga

Terrorism claimed the lives of thousands of innocent children of this country. Their lives were lost at a time when they were just starting on a long journey in their lives. The gap caused by the departure of those children has to be filled, Postal Services Minister Jeevan Kumaratunga said recently.

He was addressing an event organised by the Jeevan Kumaratunga Foundation along with Piyasena Senaratne at the Moratuwa Bauddha Mandiraya to provide 500 pregnant women with essential baby care items. Today’s children are the future leaders and intellectuals of this country, he said.

The Minister said the baby care items were presented to pregnant women to honour them and as a gift to the babies who are to be born soon. “Mothers have a duty to sow a sense of patriotism in the minds of babies when they are growing,” he said. The Minister also paid gratitude to the Armed Forces personnel who sacrificed their lives to liberate Mother Lanka from the clutches of terrorism.
