The Sri Lanka Schools of Agriculture Past Students Association
(SAPSA) will celebrate its 25th anniversary at the Sri Lanka Foundation
on Saturday. The anniversary celebrations will be followed by the annual
general meeting and a get-together.
The function will commence at 2.30 pm. The chief guest will be
Agriculture Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardane. The keynote address will
be delivered by the Director, Extension and Education of the Agriculture
Department, R.S. Wijesekara on 'Agriculture Education in Sri Lanka and
its future'.
All the past presidents, secretaries and treasurers along with key
members will be felicitated.
The Sri Lanka School of Agriculture set up in Sri Lanka in 1916 was
the first institution for scientific and practical education in
agriculture.
The thousands of Diploma holders who have passed out from the
institution have done remarkable service towards agricultural
development.
The first Prime Minister of Sri Lanka (Ceylon) D.S. Senanayake was
also a past student of the school.
