LOLC Micro Credit rewards young scholars
LOLC Micro Credit Ltd (LOMC) held its annual Isuru Diriya Sisu
Upahara Scholarship Award Program at the Bishop's College auditorium in
Colombo on Thursday.
This year's event was held for the fourth consecutive year, at which
LOMC awarded scholarships and gifts to over 550 students from diverse
communities across the country.
Out of this, 200 students who obtained top results were felicitated
at the ceremony.
Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga was the chief guest.
Deputy Governor, Central Bank, Dr. P. N. Weerasinghe, Additional
Director, Department of Supervision of Non-Bank Financial Institutions,
Central Bank, H. B. D. Karunaratne, Chairperson, LOLC Group, Ms. Rohini
Nanayakkara, Deputy Chairman LOLC Group and Chairman, LOLC Micro Credit
Ltd, Ishara Nanayakkara, Group Managing Director and CEO, LOLC Group,
Kapila Jayawardena, Executive Director, LOLC Group, Ms. Kalsha
Amarasinghe and Director and CEO, LOLC Micro Credit Ltd, Ravi Tissera
were present.
Of the children who scored high marks, Ms Malisha Parindi of Elpitiya
obtained 190, Master Kaveesha Eshan Kumarasinghe of Balangoda obtained
189 and Miss Thabirasa Thenuka of Vavuniya scored 189.
Director and CEO of LOLC Micro Credit, Ravi Tissera said, " Isuru
Diriya Sisu Upahara is a sustainable CSR program of LOLC Micro Credit to
provide opportunities for children from grassroots communities to
further their education."
