Marked increase in low grown tea

Low grown tea production has shown considerable progress during the past few months offering attractive prices to tea smallholders.

Many factories in Akuressa, Pitabeddara, Morawaka, Kotapola, Deniyaya and Neluwa have manufactured quality tea fetching top prices at tea auctions. Suppliers have been told to supply quality leaf so that they could receive higher prices.

Many tea factories have paid over Rs. 80 for a kilogram of green leaves.

The Kalubowitiyana CTC tea factory has paid a record price of Rs. 93.39 for a kg of green leaf.
