Police duty-bound to serve people -IGP Illangakoon

The police officers are duty-bound to serve the people. It is their prime duty to assist the authorities to maintain law and order in its country said Inspector General of Police N.K. Illangakoon at the passing out parade of 240 police constables and 233 police drivers at the Police Training College, Kalutara recently. He said this was the first time in the history of police that such a large number of police drivers has passed out.

Tamil police constables will be posted to stations in report the Northern and the Eastern Provinces the IGP said.

In 2008, 789 Tamils had been recruited as police constables, 49 sub-inspectors, 52 women police constables and two women sub-inspectors.

Deputy Inspector General of Police M.R. Latheef (Training) said that Tamils have been recruited irrespective of language difficulties which have since been curtailed due to the advanced training provided to the recruits.

Therefore they should use their capabilities and experience to help the authorities to meet out justice to the people.

The IGP thanked all police personel and parents & other relations of the new recruits.

Police Training College Director Sanjeeva Dharmaratne thanked the chief guest IGP N.K. Illangakoon and other members of the Police force.
