Nigel wins Under 10 title

Nigel Fernando first picked up a club at the age of 18 months from a golf set he received as a gift from his uncle. At an early age he showed a keeness in learning the fundamentals of the game while appreciating being outdoors. He played his first competition golf at the age of five in a local kids tournament.

He practices at least three times a week at the range or on the Course, as he knows that nothing beats the hard work of practice,practice and practice.

Nigel who is in grade three knows that his studies come first. Apart from golf, he likes to play car racing games and flight simulator on his mother’s ipad in a highly restricted time allowance. He resides in the US and plays regularly in tournaments sponsored by US kids golf.

In 2012, Nigel first participated in Junior Golf Nationals in the under 10 category, where he set a new standard in the country.

In 2013, defending his title, he embarked on a two day championship at the Royal Colombo Golf Club, winning in style with a score of 85. Having won the National Championship two years running, this young golfer looks forward to participating in 2014, where he will do his best to retain the title for the third year, marking a hat-trick in his performance in Sri Lanka.
