Independence Day celebrations in Kegalle

The 66th Independence Day celebrations will be held under the theme ‘Get together to win the world’” will be held under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, in Kegalle in close proximity to Nidahas Mawatha in Kegalle. Public Administration and Home Affairs Ministry sources told the Sunday Observer. Prime Minister D. M. Jayaratne is also expected to participate at the celebrations.

Three thousand invitees including Ministers, Deputy Ministers, MPs, Diplomats, Foreign delegates and Senior Government officers are expected to grace the event. A cultural pageant consisting of 768 students representing various schools in the Kegalle district and dancers representing various cultural institutions in the district will participate in the cultural events organised by the Cultural Affairs and National Heritage Ministry jointly with the Education Ministry to mark the 66th Independence Day celebrations.

Several development projects have been implemented in the district including the widening of the Colombo-Kandy road and developing the roads close to Kegalle town.

The National flag should be hoisted in all Government buildings on February 3 and 4 sources said.
