English education for religious school students

A program to provide free English education for students of religious (Dhamma) schools was launched last week under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Musaeus College Auditorium in Colombo.

The program, which seeks to improve the knowledge of English among students of Buddhist, Christian, Hindu and Islam religious schools, has been jointly organised by Faizer Mustapha Foundation and IOC Company Ltd.

Under the first stage of the program, 1,500 students from 15 such religious schools in the Colombo district will be selected to be imparted with English knowledge.President Rajapaksa symbolically presented 15 students with educational tools needed for the program. Chancellor, Sri Jayewardenepura University Ven. Bellanwila Wimalarathana Thera, Investment Promotion Deputy Minister Faizer Musthapa and religious leaders of all faiths took part in the event.
