PS members' allowances must increase two-fold - NWPC

The Opposition Leader of the North Western Provincial Council J.C.A. Alawathuwala put forward a proposal to the Council meeting recently that monthly allowances of Pradeshiya Sabha councillors must be doubled as the present amount is not sufficient to meet their day-to-day expenses incurred while discharging the duties and services for the benefit of the public.

The allowance should be doubled to encourage the members in fulfilling their services towards their voters.

NWPC Chairman Dharmasiri Dassanayake said this proposal would be taken up for debate in due course.
