Eighty-six ambulances distributed

The Health Ministry distributed 86 ambulances to hospitals in the Northern, North Central, North Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and Eastern Provinces, Health Ministry sources said.

The ambulances were given to provide intensive care facilities to the hospitals in these provinces, according to sources.

Twenty-four ambulances were given to Kilinochchi-7, Mullaitivu-6, Jaffna-5, Vavuniya-3 and Mannar-3.

Sixty-two ambulances were distributed in the North Central-9, North Western-5, Sabaragamuwa-11, Central-22, Uva-2 and Eastern province-13, the sources said. The program to distribute ambulances to these provinces were implemented under a project to improve basic social services targeting emerging regions.

Funds were allocated for this program under a long term loan agreement with the Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA).
