Apply before March 21 for temporary ICs
The last date for the acceptance of applications for Temporary
Identity Cards issued through the Department of Elections has been
extended up to March 21, the Department of Elections sources said.
A statement from the department said that any person who failed to
obtain a temporary identity card should meet the Grama Niladhari of the
division in which they reside or the Superintendent of his estate if he
is a resident on an estate, with two photograph copies that are similar
in dimension to an individual National Identity card.
Application forms for identity cards could be obtained from the Grama
Niladhari or the Estate Superintendent along with two photographs.
They hope to deliver the identity card to applicants before the poll.
The Southern and Western Provincial Councils Elections will be held
on March 29.
The National Identity Card issued by the Department of Registration
of persons, a valid pass port, Government Pensioners Identity Card, a
valid driving licence, elder's identity card and identity cards issued
to members of the clergy by the Department of Registration of Persons
were the only forms of identification that would be accepted at the
polling stations.
