Extra day for postal voting

The Elections Department will allow casting of postal votes for the Western and Southern Provincial Council elections for those who missed out on the designated days - March 13 and 14, on March 20 at District Election offices.

A spokesperson said 133,919 applications for postal voting were received by the Elections Department and of them 21,598 was rejected due to various reasons. The postal voting last week was carried out under the supervision of poll monitors and the PAFFREL deployed the largest contingent of over 300 polls monitors in transort boards, police stations, education offices, military camps and local administrative bodies. PAFFREL said there was a good response by voters, especially among the military personnel in the Hambantota district and except for isolated incidents of illegal canvassing by some supporters the postal poll conduct was generally peaceful.
