Fire breaks out at Aandagala-Ibbagala in Kurunegala

A fire broke out at Aandagala-Ibbagala, Kurunegala at about 5.30 p.m yesterday. Heavy plumes of smoke prevailed in the area due to the fire.

No one has been injured or no property damaged. The officers of the Boyagane Army camp and the Fire Brigade of the Kurunegala Municipal Council doused the fire while the Air Force deployed a helicopter to help.

People in the area too assisted in fighting the fire. He said that Municipal Fire Brigade was trying to stop the fire from spreading to the right side of Aandagala rock which is known as 'Maraluwawa Vihara' as there is shrub jungle on that side. Although the 'Millenium' housing city consisting about ninety houses and Aandagala temple were close to the place where the fire broke out, no damage has been reported.

Police have said that the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Heavy traffic congestion occurred on the Dambulla-Kurunegala, Puttalam-Kurunegala and Kurunegala-Kandy roads due to the fire.
