Huge investments in power generation avert crisis
The huge investments in the power sector and
increased generation capacity of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB)
in the recent past has averted a power crisis that would been
inevitable due to the severe drought now prevailing, said CEB
General Manager Shavindranath Fernando.
Ornamental fish exports to rise

The external sector strengthened further with
the trade deficit contracting in January 2014. Earnings from exports
increased, reflecting the ongoing recovery in the global economy
while expenditure on imports also increased, albeit at a lower rate,
driven mainly by the increase in intermediate goods imports.
