Dengue on the decrease

The National Dengue control unit of the Ministry of Health has confirmed that during the past three months 7,400 positive Dengue patients have been reported from different parts of the country.

The Kurunegala District too has been declared dengue prevalent by the Ministry of Health.

About 1,500 Dengue patients have been reported from various parts of the country during last March. However, 9,500 positive cases had been reported during first three months of last year (2013). Therefore, there is a 30 percent decline of Dengue patients this year when compared to the last year.

The NWP Chief Minister Dayasri Jayasekara has directed provincial Education Director J.G.N. Thilakaratne to instruct all school heads in Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts to organise Shramadana Campaigns with students, teachers, parents, and past pupils to ensure the cleanliness in schools.

About 23 principals had been fined after being found guilty of not clearing mosquito breeding grounds in schools.
