Diplomatic shuffle in the offing

The External Affairs Ministry will shortly shuffle some key
diplomatic postings in four countries, the US, Germany, South Africa and
India. Their transfers have been submitted for approval.
Prasad Kariyawasam, who is currently serving in India as the High
Commissioner, is the Ambassador-Designate for the United States. He will
replace Jaliya Wickramasuriya (the US Ambassador from 2008). Kariyawasam
is a long serving career diplomat. Wickramasuriya is tipped to be the
next High Commissioner to Canada.
Sarath Kongahage, previously Ambassador to Germany has been named
High Commissioner for Republic of South Africa, to replace Shehan
Ratnavale.
Karunathilaka Amunugama, former Secretary to the Ministry of External
Affairs, is the Ambassador-Designate to Germany. He had served as the
Head of Sri Lankan Missions in Thailand, Japan and China.
Prof. Sudarshan Seneviratne is the High Commissioner-Designate to
India. He will replace Prasad Kariyawasam. Prof. Seneviratne was
formerly Head of the Central Cultural Fund. |
