South Korea in runaway 59-3 win over Sri Lanka
By Hafiz Marikar
Hosts South Korea kicked off the Asian Five Nation Rugby Tournament
in style by beating Sri Lanka 59-3 in the first game at Seoul yesterday.
The Koreans were superior in their play with the home advantage, and the
hosts made Sri Lankans pay dearly by racing to 30 points to 3 at the end
of the first half. They scored nine tries, four conversions and two
penalties to three (a penalty).
Egged on by an enthusiastic crowd, home team dominated the entire 80
minutes and never allowed the Sri Lankans to come back into the match.
Sri Lankans had many chances of scoring but failed to get the act
together, what ever said and done skipper Namal Rajapaksa led the side
well and also got the team to play together with Dushanth Lewke who came
in half way also giving of his best.
The Koreans were far superior in all the departments of the game but
the Lankans gave a creditable display to lose by 59-3, having lost by
bigger margins in their earlier matches against Korea. |
