Executive Presidency, the need of the hour – Radhakrishnan

The Executive Presidency is the need of the hour and should remain in the statute book. It facilitates the decision-making process especially when the country is on the road to rapid development having successfully faced all challenges ahead, said Upcountry People’s Front political leader MP V. Radhakrishnan.

He said it was due to President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s bold decision as Executive President that terrorism, the highest menace faced by Sri Lanka since independence was eradicated. The President demonstrated to the world how executive powers could be legitimately exercised in leading the country on the development path.

Consequently, the Upcountry People’s Front vindicates the position that the Executive Presidency need not be scrapped and President Rajapaksa is the only leader who could legitimately hold this high office.

His decision to contest the third term has been necessitated from the country’s standpoint as there is no other suitable candidate, he said.
