Rubber prices recover at slow pace
The boom in rubber prices that producers enjoyed
during the past three years has come to an end and today, the market
experiences a continuous decline in prices. The chairman of the
Colombo Rubber Traders Association, M.S. Rahim said that the price
decline is mainly associated.

Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel will be the best
player among mobile service providers by next year, said Mobitel CEO
Ranjith Rubasinghe, who assumed duties mid this year. He said that

Young workers in Asia face instability
A new International Labour Organisation (ILO)
report on the transitions of young people from education to the
employment market in Asia and the Pacific, finds a majority of youth
in the region are either in low quality jobs or unemployed. Nearly
half of the workers aged 15-29 in Asia and the Pacific are
self-employed and two in three youth are in paid work without a
written contract.

Spice exports up 40% in 2013
Sri Lanka's spice exports rose 40 percent to
$329 million in 2013 from $ 236 million in 2012. Spice export
revenue was US$ 115 million in 2009, Export Development Board EDB
statistics revealed.

DFCC Bank loans for self-employed
The Central Bank of Sri Lanka recently appointed
DFCC Bank as one of the Participating Financial Institutions to
offer loans under the Self-Employment Promotion Initiative (SEPI).
The scheme was introduced by the Central Bank to empower and support
the self-employed sector.
