CEB, a profit-making institution soon

The final phase of the Norochcholai power plant will be commissioned on September 16, with the participation of Chinese President Xi Jinping and President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) General Manager Shavindranath Fernando told the Sunday Observer.

The two machines of the plant are now ready for operation, Fernando said. The commissioning of the final phase will add 900 MW power to the national grid opening a new chapter in the history of the CEB, he said.

While adequately addressing the power requirements of the country, the CEB would also speedily settle its outstanding loans and turn out to be a profit-making institution, he said. The CEB is grateful to the government and people of China and to President Xi Jinping for the kind gesture.
