Generous gesture by pensioners

Kurunegala District Government Pensioners’ Association will donate library books to 25 remote government. schools in the Kurunegala District during this month, being the National Literary Month . Library books worth one million rupees would be donated to primary students from low-income families.

The Ministry of Education has instructed all school heads in the Kurunegala and Puttalam districts to organise literary competitions such as creative writing, poetry and oratory during this month to motivate students towards literary appreciation and inculcate the habit of writing on creative topics among students.

Rs. 15 million rupees has been allocated by the Ministry of Education to award prizes to the winners of these competitions said the Director of Education in Kurunegala B.M. Balasooriya.
