Western Provincial Councilor Malsha Kumaranatunga condemned the
criticism leveled against her by UNP Parliamentarians Harin Fernando and
Mangala Samaraweera in regard to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.
"We also plan to set up a fund to help people infected with ALS.
The Ice Bucket Challenge has gained enough recognition among the
people even amidst criticism leveled against it. A woman whose husband
was infected with ALS appealed to conduct charity programs to help
them", Ms. Malsha said.
Addressing the media in Colombo, she said that UNP Parliamentarian
Mangala Samaraweera criticized that they wasted water in the program.
Water was not wasted , instead people came to know of this disease.
First Singer Iraj accepted the ice bucket challenge and it is a
meritorious deed .
There is no medicine for ALS. A person who were infected with ALS
will die in a year or two.
As I accepted the Ice Bucket Challenge I could contribute to the ALS
Institute to conduct researches.
I also plan to hold discussions with Western Province Chief Minister
Prasanna Ranatunga and Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena to set up a
fund and conduct countrywide awareness programs. |
