Sachin Dias to be felicitated on Sept 11
St.Sebastian's College Moratuwa has been in the forefront of
producing many talented individuals in the field of sports and academic
who have brought glory and honour to its Alma Matar, the town of
Moratuwa and the Motherland. The college has produced a World Cup wining
cricketer, SAAF level winners in Basketball and Athletics in the past.
The Achievement of Master Sachin Dias can be ranked as one of the most
prestigious achievements by a Sebastianite to date in the field of sport
and also one of the greatest by a Sri Lankan as well.
Sachin's triumph is significant considering that he is the first ever
winner a Youth Olympic Games from Sri Lanka. Further, he becomes 3rd Sri
Lankan to win a medal at an Olympic level competition for Sri Lanka.
The first was the great Duncan White and the Second being the
sprinter Susanthika Jayasinghe who won a Silver Medal at the Sydney
Olympics in year 2000.
Sachin has won an Olympic Level Medal for Sri Lanka after 14 years.
This indeed is a great feat for a boy playing badminton from school and
a town renowned for producing world class cricketers.
As an Advanced Level Commerce student, the achievements he has made
are truly remarkable and applaud able.
