Sachin Dias to be felicitated on Sept 11

St.Sebastian's College Moratuwa has been in the forefront of producing many talented individuals in the field of sports and academic who have brought glory and honour to its Alma Matar, the town of Moratuwa and the Motherland. The college has produced a World Cup wining cricketer, SAAF level winners in Basketball and Athletics in the past. The Achievement of Master Sachin Dias can be ranked as one of the most prestigious achievements by a Sebastianite to date in the field of sport and also one of the greatest by a Sri Lankan as well.

Sachin's triumph is significant considering that he is the first ever winner a Youth Olympic Games from Sri Lanka. Further, he becomes 3rd Sri Lankan to win a medal at an Olympic level competition for Sri Lanka.

The first was the great Duncan White and the Second being the sprinter Susanthika Jayasinghe who won a Silver Medal at the Sydney Olympics in year 2000.

Sachin has won an Olympic Level Medal for Sri Lanka after 14 years. This indeed is a great feat for a boy playing badminton from school and a town renowned for producing world class cricketers.

As an Advanced Level Commerce student, the achievements he has made are truly remarkable and applaud able.

The Rev. Fr. Rector, the staff, the students along with the Old Boys Association of St.Sebastian's College, Moratuwa has planned a grand felicitation ceremony in honour of yet another proud product of the college. Master Sachin Dias who won a Bronze Medal at the recently concluded Youth Olympics held in Nanjing, China, taking part in the Badminton Mixed Doubles. The ceremony will be held on Thursday 11th September 2014.

The Old Boys will welcome him at the Moratuwa Cross Junction at 7.45 a.m. and will proceed tot he college premises in a motor parade. At the college premises Master Sachin Dias will be welcomed by Rev.Fr.Bonnie Fernandopull - Rector/Principal, Rev.Fr.Ruwan Pradeep - Prefect of Games, the staff his fellow students and special invitees.

The organisers request all Old Boys and the sports loving public of Moratuwa to join in welcoming Master Sachin Dias when the Sebastianite community gathers in felicitation.
