Lanka Hospitals to carry out 1,000 cataract surgeries free

Lanka Hospitals with the Embassy of China and a coalition of Chinese enterprises based in Sri Lanka, will carry out 1,000 free cataract surgeries.

The program coincides with the visit of the Chinese President to Sri Lanka. Registrations for the cataract surgeries closed on September 12 and the surgeries were carried out from the September 13, offering an opportunity for underprivileged cataract patients to be treated at a world-class medical facility such as Lanka Hospitals.

Sri Lanka has gifted 1,000 free corneal grafts to Chinese patients. The free cataract surgeries are being offered as a reciprocal gesture. Four Chinese consultant eye surgeons will perform the cataract surgeries at Lanka Hospitals' advanced medical facility.
