Ukraine deal with pro-Russian rebels at Minsk talks

Ukraine's government and pro-Russia rebels have agreed a memorandum on a peace plan for the eastern conflict. The deal includes setting up a 30km (19-mile) buffer zone, a ban on overflights of part of eastern Ukraine by military aircraft and the withdrawal of “foreign mercenaries” on both sides.

As many as 500 migrants crossing the Mediterranean to start new lives in Europe have drowned after their boat was rammed by human traffickers, it was reported .The disaster was just one of five fatal sinkings in the Mediterranean over the weekend, as Palestinians and Iraqis join the flow of Syrians and Africans escaping conflict and oppression.

Turkey opens border to Syrian Kurds fleeing IS

Turkey has allowed thousands of Syrian Kurds fleeing Islamic State (IS) militants to cross its southern border, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said. TV footage showed exhausted people, mostly women and children, crossing into the south-eastern border village of Dikmetas under tight security.
