Seventy percent voter turnout:
Uva PC polls free and fair – Elections Chief
Returning Officers said the Badulla district had
sixty eight percent voter turnout while the Moneragala district recorded
a 63 per cent voter turnout. Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya
speaking at a press conference immediately after polls closed last
evening expressed satisfaction over the conduct of the poll and said
that the elections were free and fair.

UPFA takes early lead
United People’s Freedom Alliance took an early lead
in the Uva Provincial Council elections held yesterday. Early postal
votes and electoral results predicted another victory for the ruling
UPFA. Election analysts predicted that the UPFA would register a
convincing win in Moneragala district and would also seal victory in the
Badulla district too.

Investment Promotion Minister LakshmanYapa
Abeywardena said the total number of Foreign Direct Investments(FDIs)
gained by Sri Lanka from 1978 up to 2005 was US$ 3 billion.However, US$
8 billion worth FDI inflows have come in during President Mahinda
Rajapaksa's tenure from 2005 to 2013 which is a 74 percent increase in
FDIs.
