Children of the cosmos
“Those who lose dreaming are lost.”
- An Aboriginal proverb
When you look out of your eyes into the endlessness of the cosmos,
you are looking at you because you are the Universe expressing itself as
a human for a little while. You are a child of the universe, no less
than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. You are not,
“in” the universe; you “are” the universe, an intrinsic part of it. You
are the light of the cosmos.
Ultimately, you are not a person, but a focal point where the
universe is becoming conscious of itself. Hence, everything in the
universe is within you. Ask all from yourself.
The garden of the cosmos has no limits, except in your mind, which
realize not the inter-connectivity of minds. What an amazing miracle it
is to know: we are all, connected to each other atomically -
biologically to the earth; chemically to the rest of the universe. We
are all visitors to this time, this place.
We are just passing through. Our purpose here is to observe, to
learn, to grow, to love... and then we return home. Hence, open your
self to the power of the universe around you and it will flow through
you.
You are not separate from the whole. You are one with the sun, the
earth, the air. You do not have a life. You are life.
Therefore, realise that even though you are a tiny speck in an
infinite cosmos, a blip on the time-line of eternity, you are not
without purpose.
“A human being is a part of the whole we call “Universe”, a part
limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and
feelings as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical
delusion of his consciousness.
This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our
personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us.
Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our
circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of
nature in its beauty.” - Albert Einstein.
Senses
To a mind that is still: the whole universe surrenders. Principles
for the Development of a Complete Mind: Study the science of art. Study
the art of science. Develop your senses - especially learn how to see.
We see with the eyes; but we see with the brain as well; and seeing with
the brain is imagination.
However, reality provides us with facts so romantic that imagination
itself could add nothing to them - sometimes. Thus, realise the reality
that everything connects to everything else.
Nothing is so dangerous to the progress of the human mind than to
assume that our views of science are ultimate, that there are no
mysteries in nature, that our triumphs are complete, and that there are
no new worlds to conquer.
If I honour the place in you where the entire universe resides, I
honour the place in you where lies your love, your light, your truth and
your beauty.
If you reach for the stars, you are reaching for the farthest thing
out there. When you reach deep into yourself, it is the same thing, but
in the opposite direction.
If you reach in both directions, you will have spanned the universe.
He who lives in harmony with himself lives in harmony with the
universe. Like water, which can clearly mirror the sky and the trees
only so long as its surface is undisturbed, the mind can only reflect
the true image of the Self when it is tranquil and wholly relaxed. The
power of the mind is your power. Use it. Do not let it use you.
“We have begun at last to wonder about our origins: Star stuff
contemplating the stars; organised collections of ten billion billion
billion atoms contemplating the evolution of matter, tracing that long
path by which it arrived at consciousness here on the planet Earth and
perhaps throughout the cosmos.
Our obligation to survive and flourish is, owed not just to ourselves
but also to that cosmos - ancient and vast, from which we spring… On
this planet, everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever
heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives.
Hopeful
We are the aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident
religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines. On this spec of dust we
call Earth live every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every
creator and destroyer of civilisation.
Every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and
father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals,
every corrupt politician, every “superstar,” every “supreme leader,”
every saint and sinner in the history of our species, lives here: on a
mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
Our posturing, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we
have some privileged position in the universe are challenged by this
point of pale light.
Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In
our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will
come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.” Carl Sagan, Pale Blue
Dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space. Hence, we need to save
ourselves.
There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human
conceits than this distant image of our tiny world.
Who ever thought that, on it, life would arise and thinking beings
would evolve, who would one day try to puzzle out what had sent them on
this journey. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more
kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish this pale blue dot
in the cosmos, the only home we have ever known and will know, for a
long time to come.
The Earth is the only world known so far to harbour life. There is
nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could
migrate.
Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth
is where we make our stand because the only humans in the Universe, come
from Earth. For us, the children of the cosmos, the moment is timeless.
When all of our dust and ice deteriorates into the cosmos, we will be
left only with ourselves, nothing else. Thus, if you want to be there in
the end, today is the day to start holding onto your children, holding
onto your loved ones; onto those who share your soul.
Harbour and anchor into your heart justice, truth, courage, bravery,
belief, a firm vision, a steadfast and sound mind. Be the person of
meaningful and valuable thoughts and never be afraid of fear.
Force
We see a universe marvellously arranged, obeying certain laws, but we
understand the laws only dimly. Our limited minds cannot grasp the
mysterious force that sways the constellations.
Yet, our biological rhythms are the symphony of the cosmos.
It takes a fearless, unflinching love and deep humility to accept the
universe as it is. Man finds meaning in his existence only through the
active demonstration of his human self, a cosmos comprising the entire
constellation of life's factors: culture, civilisation, tradition,
history, ideals, facts, physical conditions, one's mental state, the
ecology, and so on.
Hence, when you look behind, you ought to be, filled with gratitude;
looking forward, be filled with vision.
Look up into the cosmos and be filled with strength. Look within, and
discover peace: for we must live together, like one being as meant to
be, if we are to achieve real progress, real happiness.
