BoC partners APRACA meeting

The 65th Asia Pacific Rural and Agricultural Credit Association (APRACA) Executive Committee meeting was held at the Cinnamon Grand last week.

The theme was 'Adaptation and Mitigation of the Impact of Climate Change on Rural and Agricultural Finance'. Since its setting up in 1977, the regional association has been promoting cooperation and facilitating mutual exchange of information and expertise in the field of rural finance to alleviate poverty in the Asia Pacific region.

Today, 69 institutes in 21 countries are affiliated with APRACA.

The Bank of Ceylon (BoC) with the Central Bank, People's Bank, National Development Bank, Union Bank, Sanasa Development Bank and the Rural Development Bank hosted the APRACA Executive Committee meeting. BoC General Manager and APRACA Executive Committee member D.M Gunasekara said, "Sri Lanka was privileged to host the APRACA this year.

The program shared knowledge and information with regard to this year's theme which is of concern to all banks and financial institutions that provide credit facilities to the agricultural sector."

"This was a opportunity for all banks and financial institutions in Sri Lanka which lend to the agricultural sector to enhance their expertise and exposure in the field," he said.
