Jathika Hela Urumaya adrift - Ven. Ellawala Medhananda Thera

The Jathika Hela Urumaya and Jathika Sangha Sammelanaya work against their fundamental policies and hence we quit these organisations to support President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the forthcoming Presidential election, said former Jathika Hela Urumaya leader and MP Ven. Ellawala Medhananda Thera.

He was addressing a media conference themed Sebe Hela Urumaye Mataya (The policy of the real Hela Urumaya at the BMICH recently. It was organised by the ‘A country for tomorrow’ national organisation.

A large number of past office-bearers of the two organisations was present.

Ven. Medhananda Thera said in the event the common candidate Maithripala Sirisena wins the Presidential election the country would be dislodged and the separatist terrorists will capitalise on it.

The bhikkhus of the Jathika Hela Urumaya and National Bhikkhu Council who sensed this looming danger will certainly rally round President Rajapaksa to ensure his victory.

Maithripala Sirisena’s pledge that he would abolish the Executive Presidency within 100 days is not practical and his disinformation campaign will plunge the country into an abyss, the Thera said.

He said it is important to ensure that terrorists and separatists will not raise their ugly head again and this ardous task could be accomplished only by President Rajapaksa who defeated terrorism.

The group led by the common candidate is hotch potch and failed to pursue a consistent policy. President Rajapaksa’s victory at the Presidential election is indispensable to guarantee that the development drive will continue uninterruptedly, he said.

Hetata Ratak National Organisation’s Secretary and Jathika Sangha Sammelanaya Coordinating Secretary Ven. Denagama Dharmarama Thera said that the Jathika Hela Urumaya and Jathika Sangha Sammelanaya leaders had failed to express the true policies of their two organisations.

Although a certain group of the Hela Urumaya continues to act arbitrarily against the core party policies, a large number of those who guard the party policies will leave the party and rally round President Rajapaksa, Ven. Dharmarama Thera said.
