NWPC teachers not permitted to take up foreign jobs
by S.M. Wijayaratne, Kurunegala Cor.
The NWP-PC Chief Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara has decided not to
allow government school teachers in the Kurunegala and Puttalam
districts to go abroad for lucrative jobs. They apply for no pay leave
to serve in other countries such as Italy and the Middle East. Over 240
school teachers of the NWP have left and they have been working abroad
for four or five years.
There are 1,234 schools in the NWP with 498,000 students. This is an
unwholesome trend for students and the NWP Chief Minister has directed
the NWP Provincial Director of Education not to recommend any teacher to
go abroad for employment under any circumstances hence forth. "However,
the teachers can resign from their posts and go abroad for jobs and I
can't stop them migrating to take up jobs," said NWP-Chief Minister at
the NWP Chief Minister's Office in Kurunegala recently.
