Royal College Hockey voyages across International Waters

The 1st XI Hockey Team of Royal College of 2014 captained by Shaheer Bari is set to tour Singapore and Malaysia on the 6th of December as they hope to repeat their remarkable performances displayed throughout the entire year.

This Team which consists with a star studded line up include 10 coloursmen inclusive of the Vice-Captain Malith Rasanga who represented the Sri Lanka U-18 Side and also the teamwork and dedication of this team is undoubtedly the highlight as it has been prominently evident in many of their triumphs.

The team led by Skipper Shaheer Bari bagged many Tournaments under their name as they remained undefeated and emerged National Schools Games Champions which is regarded as the Holy Grail of Hockey at schools level in the island. The Boys from Reid Avenue were also successfully able to quell their rivals as they comfortably gained victories ensuring more silverware to school with Blue and Gold. They won all the three trophy matches played this year by defeating Wesley College 3-1, Kingswood College 5-0 and S. Thomas’, Mt. Lavinia 3-0.

Royal College which has displayed great prowess in the game of Hockey, especially in the last two decades, has being consistent in their achievements. The Principal Mr. Upali Gunasekara has been a great source of inspiration, supported by the Senior Games Master Sudath Liyanagunawardena and a host of other teachers who work tirelessly to help maintain the standard achieved.

The Royal College Hockey Club which nurtures the game of Hockey at the College and their Coach Rohan Dissanayake who has been moulding the hockey players of Royal College for over two decades has been the driving force of the success story.

The Royal College team will compete in a series of exhibition matches, in both Singapore and Malaysia followed by a Tournament featuring some of Asia’s Best Junior Players.

The boys from Reid Avenue hope to replicate their performances shown back home and continue their amazing undefeated winning streak!
