The swimmers of Gateway College achieved great success at the
recently concluded International Schools Swimming Championship that was
held at the Sugathadasa Swimming Pool Complex. Gateway swimmers
established eleven new meet records and won six age group championships.
The Swimming Championships organised by the Asian International
School saw the participation of twenty one reputed International Schools
from across the Country. The top swimmers for Gateway were Alvin
Arulmaran who was the Under 12 Boys Champion (with 3 new meet records),
Araliya Gunasekara who was the Under 12 Girls Champion (with 3 new meet
records), Stephan Perera who was the Under 14 Boys Champion (with 1 new
meet record), Gavin Karunanayake who was the Under 16 Boys Champion
(with 2 new meet records), Hiruni De Soyza who was the Over 16 Girls
Champion (with 1 new meet record), Seniya Ariyananda who was the Over 16
Boys Champion and Vihanga Perera who established a new meet record.
Gateway finally ended up as runners-up with a total score of 984
points raising their standard further in comparison to their previous
year's record.
The level of competition witnessed at this meet was extremely high
and it is commendable for TISSL (The International Schools of Sri Lanka)
with comparatively fewer number of schools to organise such a contest
where over 2000 swimmers took part.
This no doubt augurs well for TISSL and also the country as it
projects itself as an international sports destination.
