Laggala police recover weapons

Police yesterday recovered the T56 weapon and five revolvers, reportedly stolen from the Laggala police station on Thursday (April 14) morning, from a temple premises in Laggala, yesterday (April 16) morning, Police Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said.

According to sources, the police found the weapons near the water tank of the Wellewela, Sandagala temple about five kilometres away from the Laggala police station, following a tip off by the Chief incumbent of the temple.

The suspect had abandoned the weapons due to the intense police search in the area. .

According to the initial police investigations, the suspect had entered the police station on Thursday morning and stolen the weapons from the police armoury. Three police officers who were on duty at the police station at the time of the incident were interdicted. Police Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said no suspects have been arrested so far and further investigations are now under-way to arrest the suspects.
