Sri Lanka’s attempt to overcome economic woes:


Last year, soon after taking power as president of Sri Lanka, Maithripala Sirisena requested a US$4 billion loan from the IMF to restructure its debt repayments. The bailout package was rejected by the IMF. It warned the government instead to rationalise the tax system and arrest growing inflation.

 

Why investigations into mass graves have failed so far


Sri Lanka is a place where very many mass graves have been discovered. The Chemmani and Matale mass graves are the only two instances in which some progress was made in terms of a judicial inquiry to discover their backgrounds.
