Pujith new IGP?

The Constitutional Council (CC) will meet tomorrow (April 18) and may decide on appointing a new IGP.

According to informed sources, the names of Senior DIGs Pujith Jayasundara, S. M. Wickramasinghe and Chandana Wickramaratne have been nominated to the Council by President Maithripala Sirisena. The three candidates have also been summoned to appear before the CC. However, the appointment of a new IGP lies with the Council, the sources said. Sri Lanka’s 33rd Police Chief N. K. Illangakoon retired on April 11 after five years of service and S.M. Wickremasinghe has been appointed as acting IGP.
