Much potential in Eastern fishing industry
The business community in Batticaloa said that investments in the
fisheries industry are not sufficient to tap the full potential in the
East even though several years have lapsed since the end of terrorism.
“The government has invested heavily on infrastructure development.
“Huge investments are coming into the tourism sector. However,
investments in agriculture, fishing and dairy sectors which have a huge
potential and can improve the lives of hundreds of thousand people are
insignificant,” said the Director General of the Batticaloa District
Chamber of Commerce and Industries, N. Sunthareasan.
The Chamber invited local and foreign investors to invest in the
industrial sectors. The annual business and investment promotion event,
the Batticaloa International Trade Exhibition (BITE) organised by the
Chamber which opened on October 12 and concludes today.
