Ladies' wins Higgins Trophy

Ladies' College crews won the coveted Marie Musaeus Higgins Trophy
beating their arch rivals Musaeus College 27-25 in their ninth annual
Ladies'-Musaeus rowing competition held at the Beira Lake waters,
Colombo Saturday evening. Musaeus led the proceedings with the start as
they won the first five events - A Scull, B Scull, A Pair, B Pair and B
Double Scull, collecting 25 points while Ladies having no points. But
Ladies' College won the A Double Scull to add their first seven points
and they overcame Musaeus in the B Four event to amassed another eight
points.
Before the much important boat race - day's ultimate event, points
tally read Musaeus 25 and Ladies' 15.
Due to the favourable overcast conditions for rowing, 10 new records
were set up in all points giving eight events and two exhibition events
- Old Girls and C Four.
Defending champions Ladies' College won the inaugural championship in
2004 by 40-00.
They had won five championships (in 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011)
before this year while Musaeus have won two titles during 2005 and 2010
with one tie in 2006.
