Richmond win President's Challenge Trophy
Richmond College's Chamod Piyumal sealed the victory hitting a last
ball six as Richmond College, Galle won the second annual Triangular
President's Challenge Trophy Twenty20 match beating Thurstan College in
the final played at the Thurstan College grounds, Reid Avenue yesterday.
Kelum Nanayakkara hammered 38 runs and Wanidu Hasaranga added 20 for
Richmond. Thurstanite Charana Nanayakkara picked up two wickets for 22.
Earlier, Thurstan captain Ramidu Kumarasinghe smashed 52 runs
featuring four fours and a six after winning the toss. The last year
winners totalled 132 in 19.2 overs with the help of Ravindu Kularatne's
cracking 38 runs. The pair added 88-run stand for the third wicket.
Richmond's Prabath Nishantha picked up three for 27 and A K Tyrone was
impressive with the ball capturing three for 27.
The tournament conducted for two days featuring Nalanda College,
Colombo. It was a double win for Richmond as their Old Boys also won the
final match beating Nalanda College Old Boys last morning.
Current ICC match referee Roshan Mahanama played for Nalanda Old Boys
and the stylish right hander scored 62 runs.
