Alarm bells in the Vanni

Sooriya Deivan came out of his bunker in the Vanni to take a look at the sky. "Why is the Sun not shining and bright", he asked.

"It is shining up there, master. In fact we can feel the heat", said one of his striped retainers.

"All I see are dark clouds. In fact I am also feeling the heat, but it is not the heat of the Sun. What I now feel more is the heat of the international community," said Velupillai Prabhakaran aka Sooriya Deivan , the Sun God of Terror Incarnate.

He summoned an immediate meeting of his strategists. Everyone who came knew that such sudden meetings could mean the elimination of a few, or many. They were not speaking to each other.

Prabhakaran did not waste time in coming to the point. "What are all these setbacks" Can anyone explain this to me? All your reports have been that everything is fine, except on the Eastern Front. But that is clearly not the case.?

Amidst the prevailing silence Vimaanappuli, the aerial strategist showed some courage. He was the current hero. "Sorry, Deivan, we don't see any setbacks. In fact we are just getting ready for another attack. I'm sure this will also be a success." "Air strikes, air strikes. That is all I hear these days. What about all the strikes at us? The direct hits come from all over. Can't you see what is happening"?

"But Deivan, there have been no strikes at us. Our boys have come back safe," said Vimaanappuli.

"Your thinking is stuck up in the air. Come down to earth.

Now Chelvan, how can you explain all these setbacks"? he said turning to Thamilchelvan.

He was puzzled. "I think we can get over the problem with India. The latest message we received from the DMK is that Karunanidhi will play the whole thing down. Anyway, we should be happy there is a split in the camp of that renegade Karuna. Isn't that good news, Deivan"?

"Yaaah, I'm not so sure. What's happened to all of you? We are faced with so many setbacks all over and you are taking of splits in the bloody renegade's camp. What about all these setbacks. What are the strategists in the Diaspora doing? That is what I want to know" said an angry Prabhakaran.

Thamilchelvan thought it was time to talk. "But Deivan, these are not so serious. They will pass away. We have faced such situations before".

"What nonsense"; thundered the Sun God. Those present saw the rays of anger around him and feared for their lives. "Can't you see we are being attacked all over? Just look at the record of the past one month.

How can anyone sit here and say we have faced such situations before. The strategists were looking at each other in fear. No one dar7ed speak.

"I will explain. Look, in Australia two of our best fund raisers arrested and brought to court, for diverting tsunami relief to us. Just imagine what that means to our operations over there. And all the while I was made to believe the Aussie police will not touch us; that our fellow tigers there had looked after the matter.

"But our network there is still safe," said Pottu Amman's Melbourne handler in the Vanni.

"Yaaah, I am supposed to believe that. Look at what's happened in France. We had such a good operation going. And the damn Sri Lanka Embassy there is able to get our European TV channel off the air. Do you take it lightly?"

"But we are already using another channel" said the strategist in charge of the European Desk. "What nonsense. That will also be closed down. Can't you see the threat with Sarkozy's election"

"But the British parliament debate was good for us" said Ingalaanduppuli, the Tiger operative for UK propaganda.

"You are as bad as those in Colombo who read too much into that debate. See what's happened to that well oiled racket we had with credit cards there.

The whole thing has blown up, and right in our face. See-how much funds we stand to lose.

"Talking of credit cards, have you asked Erik in Norway, how our credit card racket there got exposed. Six of our best men are in jail. Things can only get worse.

"I have inquired from brother Solheim, but there is no response. I will contact the Norwegian Embassy about it," said Thamilchelvan.

"Big help that will be. Look at what's happening in the United States. Our top operator in New York, Karunakaran Kandasamy, the good Karuna, is before court. Is there anything worse that can happen to us there? Mind you, this comes so soon after the Sri Lanka Embassy in Washington scored a hit against us with Intelsat and got our bandwidth removed.

We've lost much of the advantage that Ranil Wickremesinghe gave us with the help of the Norwegian Embassy, by allowing us to officially smuggle in all that transmitting equipment.

Prabhakaran looked at all those present around him. Their eyes were turned away from him.

"I don't think I need to explain to you about Tamil Nadu and India. Soosai had better think of new strategies with the Sea Tigers. We must think of new ways to help Karunanidhi."

Thamilchelvan spoke. "Yes Deivan, we are working on a strategy on Tamil Nadu". "It had better be good. If we kill Indian fisherman we must not get caught. But look at all this damage to us. All these strikes against us have come in just one month. One month of setbacks. It gives the image that the international community is against us. Can you believe that" asked Sooriya Deivan.
