Bank account of Tooting Amman temple in UK frozen
The bank account with a balance amounting to several hundred thousand
sterling pounds in the Tooting Amman Hindu Temple in London has been
frozen and the Trustee of the Temple, K. Seevaratnam is being
investigated by the British officials for his alleged involvement with
the LTTE, reports from London said.
According to reports the investigations by the British officials on
the covert activities of the temple have been going on for the past
three years prior to the action taken to freeze the bank account.
Investigations have also revealed that the Trustee, Seevaratnam had
visited Kilinochchi from London in recent years and handed over around
forty thousand sterling pounds collected from his temple, to the LTTE
leader Prabhakaran.
It was also revealed that he is being interrogated and is a native of
the LTTE leader Prabhakaran's home town, -Velvettithurai.
A portrait of Seevaratnam with Prabhakaran is also displayed on the
walls of the temple, reports said. During the festival season, funds are
collected in the name of charity for refugees in North and East in
addition to the offerings made for the rituals at the temple, reports
said.
