The mystery that surrounded the death of Indrajit Fernando, a
businessman cum car broker, whose bullet riddled body was found inside
his vehicle at Susantha Mawatha, Panadura last year was solved with the
arrest of a suspect by the CID last week.
A team of CID officers investigating the alleged murder took in for
questioning a suspect, Saman Karunaratne of Wadduwa in connection with
the murder of Indrajit Fernando last week. He was produced before the
Panadura Magistrate, Jagath A. Kahadagamage last week and remanded
pending further investigations.
The Magistrate also ordered the Supdt of Prisons Kalurata to produce
Abdul Mohemed Karim a suspect before him when the case is taken up on
May 30. The suspect Abdul Mohemed Karim was arrested by the Kalutara
police earlier in connection with a robbery and remanded.
The CID made a breakthrough when they found that the fingerprints on
the vehicle of Indrajit Fernando tallied with those of Saman Karunaratne
and Abdul Mohemed Karim.
Both suspects had been evading arrest for more than a year until they
were traced by the CID. In January this year, the wife of deceased
Indrajit Fernando made an application to court through a lawyer for the
CID to investigate the case as the Panadura police failed to arrest the
suspect.
Sub-Inspector I. Premadasa of the CID is conducting investigation.
