25 Lankan exporters for Global SME Trade Fair
The Sri Lanka-Malaysia Business Council of the Ceylon Chamber of
Commerce will take 25 promising Sri Lankan exporters to the Global SME
Trade Fair to be held from September 5-8 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to
promote bilateral business opportunities to mark 50 years of diplomatic
ties between the two countries.
The Global SME 2007 will be the biggest event for small and medium
businesses in the ASEAN region to network and explore trade
opportunities and forge smart business partnerships.
The Global SME 2007 will be the gateway for Sri Lankan companies and
entrepreneurs to accelerate their business network and exports. The
International Market Place attracted over 11,000 visitors last year. It
is organised by The Small and Medium Enterprise International
Corporation Association of Malaysia and the Kuala Lumpur Malay Chamber
of Commerce.
Malaysia, one of the most developed nations in Asia has a harmonious,
multi-religious and multi-racial society of 26 million people with a
high GDP per capita. Malaysia is the world's 19th largest exporter and
has emerged today as the leading trading nation in the ASEAN region.
Malaysia has a steadily growing SME sector and a broadbased
manufacturing sector which accounts for 80% of the country's exports.
Malaysia is one of the world's largest producers of microchips and palm
oil. Today Malaysia is positioned as the gateway to the Asia Pacific
region which consists of many Asian tiger economies that are vital
markets for Sri Lankan exports.
