Car-park opposite Lake House in deplorable state
A large section of the public vehicle park at D. R. Wijewardene
Mawatha, Colombo, opposite Lake House is not suitable to park vehicles,
motorists complain.
An executive of a mercantile bank Ranjan Lokumanna who parks his
vehicle at the park said that two temporary security check points have
been erected at the car park to monitor moving vehicles and also to
collect parking charges from motorists.
"We are not bothered about the parking charges, paid to the UDA but
the authorities must provide a convenient place to park vehicles," a
hospital employee Dayasena Peiris said.
He said during peak hours nearly 500 vehicles are parked and a person
who comes to the car park could clearly see the pathetic situation. "Not
only large potholes, the park has several shrubs and granite elsewhere
and we have to park our vehicles among them," he said.
An employee in an airline company said even foreigners park their
vehicles in the park and it cannot be used during rainy days. "Therefore
I earnestly request the authorities in the UDA, the Colombo MMC and
other relevant authorities to visit the place and make arrangements to
convert it into a viable one, he said.
